“The politics and the pop culture always go hand by hand”...
"Julius Caesar LIVE" by Yuri Grymov is about the lust for power and recognition, fiery passion and reckless love that controls millions. William Shakespeare’s tragedy about the Roman emperor was a real "hit" during his life. Nowadays the performance sounds fresh, modern and exciting.
The director makes a revolution, showing his own storyline of the play: the conspirators die on the same day of Caesar's murder. What will such a turnaround mean for Rome?
Yuri Grymov has created a collective image of the modern world. Guy Julius Caesar, Marcus Junius Brutus, Marcus Antony, — all these names remain in the memory of generations not only because of Shakespeare’s genius. They are all symbols of the lust for power and the price that the governors are ready to pay for it. Moreover, it’s not the politicians but the People who is the main hero of the Modern Theatre performance.
“People are sometimes more greedy and deceitful than the authorities. Nothing has changed since Shakespeare, and is unlikely to change”, — Yuri Grymov comments.
